Kozhikode: In a major step towards rebuilding lives in Wayanad, the Kerala government has unveiled a detailed breakdown of funds allocated for the rehabilitation of disaster-hit Chooralmala and Mundakkai regions.
A significant ₹102.59 crore has been released from the State Disaster Response Fund, while ₹167.12 crore has been drawn from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. Adding to this, the Centre has extended a massive ₹529.50 crore as financial support—marking a strong combined effort to restore affected communities.
Land acquisition for the ambitious township project alone has cost ₹43.56 crore. Of the total ₹299 crore earmarked for township construction, ₹80 crore has already been disbursed to Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society, which is undertaking key development work.
The Kerala High Court had earlier granted permission to utilize ₹120 crore from the disaster fund for rehabilitation, enabling the state to channel urgent resources into recovery efforts.
In addition, the Centre’s contribution has been structured as a long-term loan with a 50-year repayment period, easing immediate financial pressure on the state.
Beyond infrastructure, the government continues to support affected families through rent assistance and daily allowances, ensuring relief reaches those most in need.
With large-scale funding and coordinated action, Kerala is accelerating its mission to rebuild Wayanad and restore normalcy after the devastating disaster.
