Iran Grants Safe Passage to Indian Oil Tankers Through Strait of Hormuz, Easing LPG Supply Concerns

New Delhi: In a significant relief for India amid rising tensions in West Asia and fears of an LPG shortage, Iran has allowed two Indian oil tankers to safely pass through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The vessels, Pushpak and Parimal, were granted permission to transit the crucial shipping route, helping ease immediate concerns over fuel supplies to India.

Iran, however, clarified that restrictions on several international vessels will remain in place, particularly those linked to the United States, Israel, and their allies. Reports suggest that the safe passage granted to Indian ships reflects the friendly diplomatic ties between India and Iran.

Amid the ongoing regional tensions, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently held a telephone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the situation, including oil supply concerns. Meanwhile, the Indian government has instructed Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories to closely monitor LPG distribution. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has directed authorities to ensure there is no black marketing or hoarding of LPG cylinders and to maintain order during sales and distribution across the country.
