Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is witnessing a sharp spike in ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels, with Munnar recording the highest UV Index in the state at 8 over the past 24 hours. In response to the rising intensity, authorities have issued an Orange Alert for Idukki district, while Yellow Alerts have been sounded in Kottarakkara, Konni, Chengannur, Changanassery, Ollur, Thrithala, Ponnani, and Mananthavady.

Health officials caution that prolonged exposure to strong UV rays can cause sunburn, skin ailments, eye disorders, and other serious health concerns. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has urged residents to take preventive measures, including limiting outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, wearing protective clothing, using hats or umbrellas, and applying sunscreen. With UV levels climbing, authorities stress that public awareness and timely precautions are key to staying safe.
