Sabarimala Gold Theft Case: SIT Signals More Arrests as High Court Orders Fresh Tests

Kerala Hc

Kochi: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Sabarimala gold theft case has told the Kerala High Court that more accused will soon be added as the investigation deepens. Informing the court on Monday, the SIT said three additional individuals would be named as accused — two in connection with the Dwarapalaka gold plating case and one in the Kattilappala case. The probe has examined the role of four people so far, with the involvement of three in the alleged crime now confirmed.

In a significant development, the High Court has directed the SIT to collect fresh samples of the gold plating and subject them to renewed scientific testing. While the samples were earlier examined at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), the court has now permitted testing by another independent agency, as sought by the SIT. Investigators have pointed to lapses in the handling of gold at Sabarimala, though the precise nature of the irregularities remains unclear. The court has asked the SIT to continue a detailed probe and also ordered a scientific review of the gold plating carried out in 2025, aiming to uncover the full extent of the alleged wrongdoing.
