Kerala Braces for More Downpour: Orange Alert in Five Districts, Thunderstorms on the Way

Thiruvananthapuram: The spell of heavy rain shows no sign of letting up across Kerala, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing orange alerts in five districts and yellow alerts in another five.

Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod are under orange alert, where very heavy rainfall—between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours—is expected at isolated locations.

Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad have been placed under a yellow alert, with the IMD warning of heavy rain ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a day.

The weather department has also cautioned about thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h. Residents are advised to stay alert and avoid outdoor activities during heavy rainfall or lightning.
