Dr. Rajeev Menon, National General Secretary of the Republican India Party (RIP), has written to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister demanding financial compensation of ₹2 crore each for the families of those killed in the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir. He also urged the government to build a dedicated memorial in Kashmir itself to honor the victims’ sacrifice.
Calling the incident a tragedy that has shaken the nation’s conscience, Dr. Menon said the families who lost their loved ones deserve the best possible support. “It is our responsibility to ensure that the sacrifices made are remembered by future generations. For that, a memorial is essential,” he said. He appealed to both the government and civil society to take this demand seriously.
The terror attack took place in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, popularly known as the “Mini Switzerland” of Jammu and Kashmir. On April 22, around 3 PM, terrorists dressed in army uniforms opened fire on a group of tourists. Twenty-eight people, including a Malayali, were killed and 20 others were injured. The attackers specifically targeted male tourists. This has been described as the deadliest terror attack in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama incident.
