Kochi: Renowned nephrologist and senior urologist Dr. George P. Abraham was found dead at his farmhouse near Nedumbassery, Ernakulam, on Sunday. He was 70. A pioneer in kidney transplantation, Dr. Abraham had reportedly performed over 2,000 transplant surgeries and numerous laparoscopic urological procedures in a distinguished career spanning 25 years.
According to reports, Dr. Abraham and his brother Paul arrived at the farmhouse on Sunday evening. Later, he requested to be left alone for some time. When he failed to respond to calls, concerned family members rushed to the scene and found him dead inside the farmhouse. Police suspect he had been battling depression due to illness. The tragic incident is believed to have occurred between 7:30 PM and 10:30 PM.
Dr. Abraham, a senior surgeon at Ernakulam’s Lakeshore Hospital, was highly regarded for his expertise in nephrology and organ transplantation. His body has been shifted to a hospital in Aluva for a post-mortem examination, following which it will be handed over to the family.
The Nedumbassery Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the incident.
