The UK-based Times Higher Education magazine released a list of the top 100 educational institutions in the world, with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham consistently securing the first place from India for the fourth year in a row. The list was released at the Times Higher Education’s Global Sustainable Development Congress held in Bangkok. 2,152 higher education institutions from 125 countries participated in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2024, which resulted in a thorough assessment of universities’ contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their dedication to important areas like research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

‘This is a testament to the vision of world-renowned humanitarian leader and Chancellor, Amma, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi in setting the dual goals of education for life and compassion-driven research. The recognition would not have been possible for the tiring efforts put in by the students and staff, and I wish to express my sincere gratitude to Times Higher Education in bestowing this honour,” Dr. Maneesha V. Ramesh, Provost for Strategic Initiatives, Research & Innovation at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham said.

The Live-in-Labs program, an internship program conducted in rural areas of India, is what made Amrita University eligible for this recognition in Asia. The program involves students living in villages to understand the challenges faced by rural people in their daily lives and striving to find sustainable solutions for them. Amrita was the only institution from India to win the award this time.
